While working summer stock in the summer of 2006, Andy Ottoson and Adam Henry hatched an idea for a New York theater that would serve as a "second home" for like-minded artists: a place to develop, explore and present challenging works that spoke to us as artists, the kind of work where it didn't matter whether it made money or not. Founding members Emily Firth, Mallory Hawks, Gretchen Porro and Victoria Watson quickly came on board, and in less than six months the group had raised enough money to present Dalliance's inaugural production of Love No Evil.
In the years since, Dalliance has continued to grow to now include twelve artistic "heads," a regular season of productions, the expansion of our workshop series and the launching of two highly successful performance series: Night Cap, a semi-regular themed cabaret, and Virgin Plays, an annual series where eight writers pair with eight directors to create one exciting new work.
Dalliance was founded with an ambitious goal-- to mount fully-staged productions of classical, obscure and original works in New York City at prices that anyone can afford. With five full productions under our belt and several more in active development, we see no turning back from our exciting beginning.
